Meta Tags for Snipesearch

When people think SEO they frequently and instantly think of google, this often leads to abandoning Meta Tags. Snipesearch Serves tens of millions of requests a year and are not even a top 10 engine. In most webmasters attempts to top google they miss out on the likes of Snipesearch, Ask and even DuckDuckGo.

Snipesearch uses an army of sources for their engine. Sphider, Yacy, XML and RSS Feeds and APIs connecting to major sources and databases. Snipesearch offer a premium RSS inclusion service that posts all your website updates into the main feed periodically. This article will focus on the free SEO.

Many of these Features will be helpful for other Meta based search engines. Check the list of tags bellow and try to ensure you have as many of them as possible set on your site, this will help you climb to the top of snipe searches organic results and many other third party engines too.

Meta Tags

  • Title Tag .– This is easy and is rarely forgotten, if you are using a CMS Like wordpress this will be automatically generated. Your title tag will look something like this:

  • Description Tag – Again an important tag that most SEO Gurus already know. If you are using WordPress install YoastSEO this will help you create a good description for your target words. A description Tag will look like the example bellow:

    <meta name=”description” content=”Free Web tutorials”>

  • Keywords. This seems actually crazy to me, but webmasters are being advised not to bother with this because google doesn’t care. Okay, so google doesn’t care? Google is the World Cup, its not that you don’t want to win, but you shouldn’t start there. Start with your local five aside team. This is why we start by making sure little engines love us, less competition. Create a keyword tag that will make you appealing to them, it doesn’t matter if google ignores it. Your Keyword tag should look like this.

    <meta name=”keywords” content=”HTML, CSS, JavaScript”>

  • Author. This simple tag lets search engines know who wrote the content on your site, this is great for sites that index articles and allow users to filter by authors. Your Author Tag should appear as follows:

    <meta name=”author” content=”John Doe”>

  • Copyright .– A simple tag that protects your content. You should ALWAYS INCLUDE THIS TAG. A sample of the author tag can be seen here:

    <meta name=”copyright” content=”The Owner” />

  • Rating. – This particular tag helps to keep your website SEO optimized for a specific audience. It also helps Adult filters keep adult sites out of the reach of children. Not using these tags can lead to you ending up in the general feed which may not be optimal. See some Examples of the rating tags here:

    <meta name=”rating” content=”mature” />
    <meta name=”rating” content=”general” />
    <meta name=”rating” content=”restricted” />
    <meta name=”rating” content=”adult” />
    <meta name=”rating” content=”14 years” />
    <meta name=”rating” content=”safe for kids” />

Takeaways

That’s the crux of it, these tags are of high importance in most third party search engines and using them wont hurt your google rank at all, some of them will even help. Snipe search considers these especially important, so when considering SEO don’t forget your tags.
