The IEEE 1394 interface is a serial bus interface standard for high-speed real-time data transfer, which is frequently used in personal computers, digital audio and digital video. Firewire 1394 is frequently choosen as the High Definition Audio-Video Network standard connection interface for A/V component, communication and control.

The 4-pin version is used on many consumer devices such as camcorders, laptops, and other small FireWire devices. Though fully data compatible with 6-pin interfaces, it lacks power connectors.
