Description

Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope,” released on April 23, 2009, was one of the last Ubuntu PowerPC Desktop editions compatible with Sony’s PlayStation 3 via the now-discontinued “OtherOS” feature.

This version features the full GNOME 2.26 desktop environment and can be installed on supported “fat” PS3 models running firmware 3.15 or earlier. It offers a full Linux desktop experience — with the limitations imposed by PS3 hardware and the hypervisor.

⚠️ This release requires firmware 3.15 or earlier. Later firmware (3.21+) removes OtherOS and prevents installation.

Installation Requirements:

  • USB drive (FAT32) with otheros.bld in /PS3/otheros/

  • Ubuntu 9.04 PowerPC Desktop ISO

  • Bootloader: Petitboot or kboot

  • Follow PS3 XMB > Install Other OS > Set as Default Boot > Reboot into installer

  • ⚠ Repartitioning the hard drive will erase all saved data
